On October 10, 2018 over 1200 women of color attorney convened in New York City at the Marriott Marquis hotel for the 14th Annual Career Strategies seminar. I was honored to close out the conference and share the stage with legendary Iyanla Vanzant, actress and comedienne Kim Coles, and the amazing Carla Harris to encourage the crowd on why they should say yes to themselves. I shared four lessons from my journey of saying “yes” to myself in 2017: 1) You also are important; 2) We must be courageous with our lives; 3) You need a herd and a shield; and 4) Say your “best yes.” I discussed challenges including: 1) You’re not the jackass whisperer; 2) You must embrace vulnerability and being naked; and 3) Not everyone will be happy with your decisions.
